Family Coat of Arms

During the last couple of weeks we have been busy with a project that took us out of our comfort zone. A customer we have known for many years finish building her dream home. The house is located in a gated community with the most spectacular views of El Paso, I honestly have to say that no other house in El Paso is privileged with such a magnificent view. I have no knowledge of architecture so I can’t state what type of style was used to build such a beautiful house all I can describe for you that it reminds me of an old Mexican Hacienda with a Mediterranean twist. The house has a gorgeous  dome that can be seen from any angle of the property I can only imagine the view that one could see from this magnificent place. Our company was hired to make eight flags, each flag representing the last name and lineage of both our customer and her husband.  The flags are place directly above a beautiful twenty person dining room table. The poles are hand carved with a beautiful braided design and both are supported by a beautiful wrought iron base. Our customer chose the finest silk fabrics to compliment the family crest.  We hope you enjoy the pictures just as much as we enjoyed making these flags.

170th IBCT

It was on July 6th 1988 when I arrived at HHC 2/68 Armor. Ft. Knox was a distant memory and I was eager to put my skills as an M1A1 Tank Turret Mechanic into practice, but I was surprised to find out that the 8th ID still had the M60A3. Well that is how my story in the United States Army began. The 8th ID is no longer, the 1st Armored Division took it's place and now it's home to the 170th IBCT, well not for much longer. So when I received and email requesting information about guidons for the 170th IBCT I got exited. Baumholder "The Rock" as some call it was my home for 4 years.
This guidon is ready to do it's tour at "The Rock"

Custom Air Force Guidon

I just love it when a customer wants something out of the ordinary. We received an email from Japan an Air Force customer that was looking to get a custom Air Force Guidon, he gave us the general idea of what he wanted and attached a great logo that he wanted incorporated into the guidon. What I liked the most was the Transformers concept that the graphic had, needless to say I wanted this job. It is very rewarding when they tell you, When can you ship? You can see how we “Transformed” our customers idea from paper to fabric. At www.DODGUIDON.com we strive to get the best products for our customers. Send your idea to dodguidons@gmail.com we will send you a quote as soon as possible.

Issues we’ve encountered when a customer orders a flag, guidon or streamer

Our company has been in business for 17 years; during this time we have encountered numerous situations that at times have made the production process a great ordeal. In our experience a customer needs a guidon because someone took the old one maybe the outgoing commander wants to take the guidon for sentimental reasons or the most common reason is that the Battalion, Brigade or Division is having a very important ceremony and they want every single company to have a new guidon. We have to deal with many issues from our customers but I would like to concentrate on the two main problems. First we get the order for the guidon or flag days sometimes hours before a critical deadline that our customer wants to meet. In this situation we understand that sometimes the last person to know is the credit card holder, supply sgt or S4 clerk and we do everything in our power to meet the customer needs. The other common problem is that when the customer received the guidon or flag, they call us and tell us “The Guidon (Flag) doesn’t look anything like the one we have. We take great pride in making our guidons and flags and we strive to make sure that everything is done in accordance with AR 840-10 for the Army, AFI 84-105 for the Air Force and MCO P10520.3B for the USMC.
I have to honestly say that the guidon or flag you have in your possession right know might not be correct or in accordance to the regulations. Let me state some examples.
Army
In AR840-10
6-3 Prohibitions (e) The only authorized abbreviation to denote the Headquarters element on guidons is “HQ”. All other abbreviations such as “HHC” or “HQS” are unauthorized. This includes HHD or HHB
We would venture to say that most guidons out there have HHC, HHB or HHD.
6-4 Description Letters and numerals will READ FROM LEFT TO RIGHT ON EACH SIDE OF THE GUIDON.

According to the regulation it should look like this.

With most Customers their guidons look like this

The Battalion number on the same side as the pole sleeve.
6-4 The letters and numbers on guidons are 3 ½ inches high unless otherwise indicated.
6-12 The battalion/squadron numerals are 2 5/8 inches high.
A very common question we have is also why our guidon/flag is a different in color than the one we received, please take in consideration color fading due to the sun and time. We will do all guidons in their respective branch color.
There is a Difference between ORDANCE and Maintenance. For a guidon ORDNACE (EOD) Guidon is Crimson with Gold Letters and Numerals. Maintenance Company Guidon is Crimson with Light blue Letters and Numerals (AR840-10 Table 6-2).
